Aaron never considered himself much of an athlete. At a young age, his idea of exercise was pacing the living room while deciding what show to binge next. But one Saturday morning, on a whim, he wandered into the local park. That’s when he heard it—a hypnotic thwack-thwack sound that pulled him toward the courts at the far corner of the park.

“Pickleball courts?” he muttered to himself, squinting at the sign. It was a game he’d vaguely heard about—something like tennis but not quite. The courts were packed with people of all ages, laughing, cheering, and fiercely competing. Aaron stood there, mesmerised, as the neon-yellow ball zipped back and forth over the net.

A man in his sixties, dripping with sweat but grinning like a teenager, noticed Aaron’s curiosity. “You ever play pickleball?” he asked, spinning his paddle casually.

Aaron shook his head. “Nope, never tried.”

“Here,” the man said, handing him a paddle. “You’ll love it.”

Within minutes, Aaron was on the pickleball court, learning the basics. The ball was lighter than he’d expected, the paddle surprisingly responsive. His first serve barely made it over the net, but when he finally nailed a rally, something inside him clicked.

The thrill of the game consumed him. The satisfying sound of the ball meeting the paddle, the quick bursts of movement, the joy of a well-placed shot—it was electric. By the end of the day, Aaron’s legs ached, his arms were sore, but he couldn’t stop smiling.

The next day, he woke up early, his mind racing with one thought: When can I get back to the pickleball courts?

Aaron’s casual curiosity morphed into full-blown obsession. He began spending every free moment at the pickleball courts. Weekdays, weekends, mornings, evenings—it didn’t matter. Rain or shine, Aaron was there. He bought his own paddle, joined a local league, and watched endless videos on how to improve his serve.

The sport consumed him in the best way. He started waking up with a single thought: Where’s the hit? That rush of the perfect rally, the anticipation of a spin shot—it was what he craved.

One morning, his best friend texted him: “Want to grab coffee?”

Aaron’s reply was swift: “At the pickleball courts in 10. Bring trainers.”

Life for Aaron wasn’t the same anymore. His obsession had taken root, but it brought with it a community, a passion, and a purpose. Every day, he woke up not just wondering about the hit—he knew exactly where to find it: at the pickleball courts.
